LOL..where do I sign up ?

I've been watching this thread with great interest and I am heartened to
see that there are still some people out there that care about the written
word.

I have a background in printing/proofreading/writing and I'm appalled by
some of the stuff I see on websites. Spellcheckers are fine for spelling,
but that's about where their usefulness ends. There's not a spellchecker in
captivity that will make sense of garbage. If what has been written doesn't
make sense, a spellchecker is NOT going to help.

I'm very lucky, in that, I can spot spelling errors/typos and bad grammar
at 20 paces but there are some people that, no matter how much they read or
write, will ever get a handle on constructing a sentence. I too wish that
web developers who don't have good writing skills would hire people whose
writing skills are sharp. As has already been pointed out, hiring a
professional can often save the client time and money and lend credibility
to both the site owner and the designer.

I recently saw a large button with a glaring spelling error/typo on it and
it took two emails for the designer to realize that I was talking about a
spelling error and not complaining about content. LOL

I'm not overly concerned about whether "color" has a "u" in it or
not..either way, I recognize the word. I also recognize
"recognize/recognise" but "their/there/they're" etc., used in the wrong
context set my teeth on edge as does repetition. LOL.

I'm also an Australian, born and bred, but having spent three years living
in the States, I tend to speak/write American English or a combination of
both, so I'm really just one pedantic, confused little fish :)
