Yes - it ensures that your browser will display correctly in ALL browsers 
(or "conforming user agents" to use the technical definition :)

If I had a dollar for each time someone wrote to this list and said "my 
page works in IE, but not in NN" I'd be MUCH richer!!  Validation gives you 
the confidence of knowing your page is visible in all browsers, not just 
the ones you can test.  After all, how many of us have tested our pages on 
a braille reader, screen reader, or speech browser?

This can be confusing!  When using a validator - it is necessary to address 
the FIRST error listed first!  Quite often fixing this first error 
eliminates a multitude of other errors.  Also, the fault listed may not 
refer to the line indicated, but actually be caused by a line earlier in 
the document.

If you have any problems try posting the code and error to this list - I'm 
sure there will be several people who can help you.
