IE has always been more forgiving of coding errors as a rule than some of
the other browsers.  Netscape, for instance, was less forgiving because it
more closely adhered to established standards.  It's somewhat ironic to me
that a product that was technically better at that time (more of my opinion
than an established fact) or at least technically adhered to established
standards more closely, winds up being percieved as inferior to a large
degree.  IE, because it would allow for errors in the code and still display
the page much as originally intended, often would still render a page as the
designer intended, even though it contained coding errors whereas Netscape
would not display the page.  As a result, in some circles, IE is percieved
as a "better" browser when that may not necessarily be so.
