In my original post, I simply commented on the fact that the Internet
has been, and always will be, a better place for the environment! I guess
nobody but Capt. Ron and Jacqui got that far in my message and they were
also the only two to respond in a "mature" manner!
You have all brought up great points! About the "spamer" stealing
services, and costing the ISP's money. You were all very correct in the fact
that a lot of people still pay buy the hour or minute, and yes - that time
is precious to them. Capt. Ron summarized it best at the bottom of his post
> I just wish there was a way to control the unwanted spammers so that
legitimate
> commercial email would not be getting such a bad rap.
I do feel it is important to address actual "Spam" e-mail. But does
that mean destroy the possibility of a business that does go through the
expense of legitimately mass-marketing e-mail. To offer real services to
consumers. Hell, I have gotten UCE messages that have gotten me clients.
Here is a trick for all of you (consider it a peace offering.) The majority
of "spamers" are not "net-savvy," as some of you identified, and usually
don't have a decent web site marketing there products or services. When I
get the time, I usually go through some of the UCE messages, and visit there
sites, I check out the quality and functionality of there marketing efforts.
If I feel I can improve on what they currently have, then I write up a
personalized proposal, and send it off. I have had 2 rejections on the 8
sites that I have "marketed" in this manner. With an average site that I
produce bringing in around $1,000. I really don't see an issue spending 30
minutes a day going through my e-mail. Try it sometime!
I did make a vital mistake in not mentioning the fact that I do not like
to get porn e-mail, I also could care less about becoming a private
investigator or anything else that is not targeted! But I run a variety of
Internet based operations for several clients, and if something pertains to
them, even one UCE and it makes the business more profitable. Then the long
term gain of that one message, makes the 30 minutes a day that I go
through - well worth it.
Last point I will mention on this topic is that if you honestly feel
that "wasting" 15 minutes a day, sifting through and deleting "Spam" out of
your e-mail box is not worth the livelihood of your child and their
children - then I question your morals, and your business ethics!
