No your not over reacting. You should have something in writing with your
partner though that states that there will be no competing with the company
done by either party. If you decide to do a job on the side, it would be
competing with the company. If she takes a job on the side, it's competing.
In all cases, the work could be allowed with a simple disclosure and written
approval.
The question should be.. do you feel that you're credentials should be used
to leverage the barter trade of her driveway? If however, the workload were
doubled, you did your share of work and the barter included a new driveway
for yourself, would you be as angry?
I personally don't like barter situations unless they directly increase the
value of the company. In other words, I might barter for office supplies,
printing services, public relations, etc. A driveway would only be valuable
if it were the one that lead to the parking lot of my office.
If this is the typical practice of your partner, it sounds like you want to fi
nd a new partner. Have no fear, they are out there.. you just have to look.
