To me, it is not so much the amateurish as it is very hard for me, and
others, to read.  And this is just not a personal preference.  Current
studies, and I'm sorry that I don't have a current web site for you to
see yourself, have continued to show that the most effective
background/foreground color combinations is still white/black.
Therefore, it makes it very hard for people like me to read the message
you put on the Web.  As I was designing my site, I determined that I
would make a site that is most accessible to most people.  I even did
much research in color blindness and how it affects the way people are
able to read what I have to say.

Finally, I haven't seen anywhere in messages by Ben Dyer about him
getting "on" the black people, as you implied by your statement, "Get
off the black people."  I just now noticed that maybe you meant to say
"Get off the black, people," which would certainly make more sense
considering the thread of this discussion.  :)
