This was taken from the help files of Paint Shop Pro 6:

"PPM (Portable Pixelmap), PGM (Portable Graymap), and PBM (Portable Bitmap)
are UNIX native formats for exchanging images in color and grayscale
respectively."

PSP 6 is able to open and save in these formats so presumably you could open
a .jpg, .gif or whatever, convert it to greyscale and save it as a .pgm if
you wanted to. PSP 6 is able to work with a large number of different
graphic file types.
