I have recently purchased software called Thumbs Plus 3.30.  I bought
330,000 images on many CD's in a program called "Imagine It" at Wal Mart.
With this software they advertised a Thumbs Plus previewing software to make
thumbnails of any images you store on hard drive or disk.  I have tried it
and it works great.  It will make thumbnails by scanning your entire hard
drive to find image files and fonts, or any particular path you tell it to
scan.  It works for all images and fonts, gif, jpg, bitmaps.. everything.

I believe this also works for slide shows, but I haven't tried it for that.
