>> story then, as I said, the background is white instead of transparent...I I have had similar problems with PSP4. If I create my own transparent gif from step one, it will usually turn our to look fairly transparent. I have to open the background with the transparent 89a setting and start from scratch, and even fill in the background color with a close color to the background I will be using. Then it usually works. Even then sometimes the background turns out white. Perhaps this has something to do with whatever color is on my background palette when I open the new file... the rectangle I open always shows as white or whatever color is in the palette (unlike Photoshop, which shows the layer as truly transparent.) But if I try to convert another image to a trans. gif, that usually is an impossible task. Something always goes wrong and the background ends up white, even though I didn't make it white. I too would appreciate advice on what I'm doing wrong in PSP that is only giving me partial success with transparent images. Lonna
