Jami,
I've been reading this thread with interest, and am stumped as to why you're
having so much problems. All I can come up with is that your monitor
adjustment is off quite a bit (how old is the monitor? They get darker with
age).
I've attached a screenshot of the image you posted to GeoCities, plus a
duplicate of it with a Gamma boost of 1.90. Here, you can CLEARLY see the
complaints people are making, and why.
I've also attached two of my screen calibration test graphics. They should
help you adjust your monitor's color balance and screen brightness/gamma.
Your original post said you were using PSP7... You can adjust screen levels
in that program by clicking on File/Preferences/Screen Gamma -- this may
help a bit, too, as it'll adjust the pictures you work on for better
editing.
