DPI doesnt make any difference to file size. its pixel size that makes
the difference. an image at 500x500 with a DPI of 72 and the exact same
file with a dpi of 1200 is the same file size. so, for the web, you can
ignor dpi. its pixels that matter.....photoshop5.5 has a save for web,
where you can preview the image quality Vs image size (file size) in GIF
and JPG format to optimise it. failing that, fireworks is good. you can
tell it the file size you want and it works out the number of colours
for you.

Hi everyone,

I just joined this list and I have a question about optimizing graphics
for
the web with PhotoShop.  I am making a web page for a collectible
ornament
for Easter Seals Wisconsin and I need to add the logos of our sponsors.
Unfortunately many of the logos are optimized for print use at a
resolution
of 1200.  These graphics are in TIF format and when I lower the
resolution
to 72 they look horrible.  I'm just familiar with PhotoShop's basic
functions and I was wondering if there is a special function I could use
to
make these graphics web-friendly.  If there are any other programs that
are
shareware or free, or that I could download a trial version of, that
would
help let me know also.  I need to get this done today and I can't
purchase
any new software immediately, so something I would have to buy to use
wont
help.
