Now I understand. Sorry about the "high horse" bit. Maybe we can make sense
of this yet.

A number of the early respondents to Susans message suggested reasonably
low-cost tools for auto-tracing, such as Adobe Streamline. It was with that
in mind that I made the suggestion to her to get the grayscale scan, as
that can often result in a smoother trace that simply black and white. And,
in the rare event that it did NOT work, the grayscale could then easily be
converted to black and white, various thresholds, if desired, to achieve
the appropriate tracing smoothness.

As it turns out, the all around best solution may be to take two disks into
the copy shop and have two scans done, one black and white, and one
grayscale, each at the highest possible resolution so that each will fit on
a single diskette.

And, Susan, if you're "listening,"...

...there are also archiving programs for both Mac and PC that are capable
of making a single file "span" multiple diskettes. This would allow you to
get some fairly large files home from the copy shop, whereupon you would
run the reverse process which puts the separate pieces back together into a
single file. MacUsers, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe "Stuffit"
will do this; and I know for a fact that PKZIP (for PC) will do this.
