Sorry but it sounds like throwing the baby out with the bath water.

Macromedia has high quality leading edge products that are used by a huge
number of professional developers.  As much as I would like to keep
downloading their trial version - I don't think it would really be fair.
As to whether they should offer extended trial versions to individuals, it
may just be a business logistics nightmare.  

This topic made me think about what a great deal Internet software is!  We
recently bought an off the shelf package and had to buy site licenses for 14
users.. so a $1000 package quickly escalated to under $15,000.  But - when
you think about Internet tools you can create web sites and applications and
distributed them globally for under $500 (for many tools.. eg. Flash,
Drumbeat )!!!!

You have cited one of the reasons why I don't choose to purchase
products from Macromedia and I DO use and recommend Paint Shop Pro. You
can still download and use PSP 3.12 -- the 16-bit version -- for as long
as you like. As I said previously, why should you trust them if they
won't trust you. IMHO, if they have confidence in their product, then
they will give a MUCH higher level of support.
