Well.. with PhotoShop5, I have always had good luck making marble with the
"difference clouds" filter and the "levels" command.

1. Make a new image of whatever size.. I suggest 500x500
2. Make background white, foreground black, and make entire image white.
3. Filter->Render->Difference Clouds
4. Image->Adjust->AutoLevels
5. Repeat steps 3-4 as many times as you wish, until you get what you need.
6. For more "Anomalies" of chipped marble, etc, use levels instead of
   autolevels.. move upper and lower limit fairly close to midrange value
   for a sharper cut from black to white.. then diffclouds again.
7. Image->Adjust->Hue/Saturation to get whatever color you are needing
   (be sure to click "colorize checkbox")
