New install doubt

Hi,

I am installing a new web server with redhat 7.2 and when I look 
the partitions I realize that everything have changed from the older 
versions, the root directory of the webserver is at /var and I usually 
used /home or the installation directory of apache /usr/local.
My doubt is I want to know if I use /var intead of /home is ok, this 
was changed for security reasons? It is better that I change all my 
server configuration to improve my security?.
