Java, frames, detaching, minimizing, etc.by "Steve Mount" <steve(at)saltyrain.com> |

I'm not much up on many of the details of frames, so there may be a quick and easy way to do this that I'm just not aware of ... any ideas are appreciated. Some details, first, to set the stage: we are using MSIE 4 or higher, with JavaScript enabled. The site of which I speak is on an intranet, and these standards are enforced. In this site, there is a main content frame, a nav bar frame and a title frame. What I want to do is load a java applet into the content frame, and have it magically reappear in the same place when the user moves to another page in the site and then back to the page with the java applet. The applet is a telnet-like applet, which maintains a connection to a server, and when the user moves away from the page, the applet detaches itself so that it won't lose the connection - this is fine, but you cannot "reattach" without closing the connection and starting it over. What would be ideal is the ability to minimize the frame and maximize it again when focus is requested, but I've never seen any mention of anything like this before. Since I am working only in MSIE, there could be some IE-only functionality to allow this, and that route is just fine for me, considering the setup of the clients. Again, any help appreciated (I do apologize that I cannot give a URL, as this is all intranet ... I could put up mock-ups of the HTML, but would not be able to include the java applet, if this would help any one visualize what I'm talking about). ------------------------------------------------------------- Steve Mount, Software Engineer steve(at)saltyrain.com Home Site http://www.saltyrain.com US Constitution Online http://www.usconstitution.net UVM Class of 1989 Home Page http://www.saltyrain.com/uvm/ Manager, HWG Logo Team http://www.hwg.org
