try a real url not a relative path.
i.e. =
http://www.kyburz.net/projects/copa/site/global_images/left_navbar_bg.jpg=
FYI the layout breaks in firebird/mozilla as well.
Best Wishes

Subject: Non-tiling background image for table cell using css?
Dear all,
I was reading with great interest the discussion on how to control=20
the background with css.
I've just run into a similar problem.
Here is the site under re-construction (it was done in frames using=20
flash navigation before by a different design company)
http://www.kyburz.net/projects/copa/site/
There is this "paper background" the client does not want to give up.
For the lefthand side I have a little gif to continue the green=20
column and used this in the external style sheet:
.tile_left_column {
background-image: url(../global_images/left_navbar_bg.jpg);=20
background-repeat: repeat-y }
for the <td> tag
Well, it would not work at all and I'm quite stuck with this one.
Any and all input on how to tame this is very much apprecitiated.
Greetings,
:: doris
