DW tracing image

hello folks,

here's for those dreamweaver people out there:

i made some great pages using tracing image for the background.  it appeared
on the dreamweaver screen while i was doing it (but not on the browser
offline).  i thought though that it would work when i upload it.  i was
wrong.

so how do you get this tracing image thing to work?  i really like the way i
was able to make the image faint by increasing the transparency.  i do not
know if i can make this work if i just use the ordinary image (and it is
large-- occupying the whole screen) and get this same results (muted colors)
by just increasing brightness and manipulating the image and so on ( i use
PSP).

any suggestions?  i really worked hard on it and i saw those images got
loaded (there were 6 pages) so i was really so disappointed when i did not
see the background as i was hoping to.

wait a minute, is this where you slice images when it is too large?  if it
is, can someone teach me on that aspect?
