Counting "online" visitors

Recently, I came across this site (i knew i should have bookmarked it)
which had a neat looking table on it's right (it was good design and
this is not about the table).

The table listed how many users were currently viewing the site and
which page they were viewing... at first I thought... "how the heck?"
and that was that... but the question didn't die...

How the heck did they do that?
