My point on this one is that it probably took us equally long to learn how
to do it with a table. Learning new things often pushes us outside out
comfort zones for a bit - I know tackling CSS has cost me a few hairs -  but
so did learning tables!  Neither is rocket science, though

I can hear this comment coming in reverse from a younger designer 6 months
from now - someone who never had to learn how to use tables for layout
hacks!

Yep, a year of studying and work to make CSS do what
could be done quickly with a table ...
