Hello David, > To what extent is it possible to positively identify the geographical > location of a visitor to one's site by analysing environment > variables, and notably host IP numbers? As Jay already mentioned that you might try http://www.arin.net. You could also use TraceRoute to see which computers are between you and the target to see where the target is from. People are usually connected to ISP near them so you can find out where they are quite precisely. In case your server has whois or finger enabled then somebody might find out a lot about you (as the user). There are some other ways to find out your location. Many people think that they are totally anonymous on the Internet. Well, they're not. You might want to download 'CyberKit' for more about these and other services. I think that you can download it from www.hackers.com (not quite sure about this one) or from some other computer security related homesite. You might also want to check out the homepage of CyberKit (http://www.ping.be/user/Luc.Neijens/). Hope this helps :-) BTW a list subscriber recently told me that every time she opens one of my posts a prompt for downloading appares. I don't want to place this burden on anybody, therefore I would like to get some private responses related to this matter. Has it occured in your case too? Any idea what it might be? Can it be "turned off"? Thanks Best wishes, Lauri Vin -- Lauri Vin Get your very own .com .net .org domain name for just $60.
