HWG operations and procedures should not be discussed on any of the Guild's
mailing lists. This specifically includes discussing a pending Governing
Board motion and questioning the reasoning behind a List Guide message.
The HWG provides forums for the discussion of Guild operations, and
these are located at:

1.  What is the HWG-techniques mailing list?

This list is targeted toward those of you who are of intermediate to advanced 
skill level. Its charter incorporates the issues of both "how to do it"
and "why/when to do it" as they relate to website design and creation

Discussion of this type are always somewhat subjective in nature and
can generate a great deal of strong emotion. Please keep your messages
on-topic, civil, and provide facts and references to back up any
opinions stated within.

2.  What Questions belong on hwg-techniques?

Questions that pertain to this list  but not limited to:

CSS
Frames
Layouts
IE/NS Compatibility problems

3.  What Questions do NOT belong on hwg-techniques? (and where do they
    go?
    
Questions about ICQ, mail and contracts or business ethics to hwg-business.
are not allowed here.  None of the lists accept ICQ or mail questions.  
If you have a problem with your mail we do have a FAQ section.  You
might find what you need there.

"Thanks for the help" messages.  If you would like to thank those that
helped you, please do so privately (as I'm sure they would appreciate
it!), but not on the list.

Similarly, a "tally" of responses should be done in private mail ONLY
to those that requested them, you may also send a copy to
lg-techniques(at)hwg.org to include in the faq.

Requests for site checks (unless you have a problem that is HTML
oriented and you use your URL as a reference for members to see the
problem to help them answer your question) should be posted on
hwg-critique.

4.  How do I unsubscribe from the list or sub to the digest?

To unsubscribe from the LIST, send a message to:
hwg-techniques-request(at)hwg.org In the body of the message, type:
unsubscribe   No subject information is needed. Your address will be
determined from the message headers.

To subscribe to the DIGEST version of the list, send a message to:
hwg-techniques-digest-request(at)hwg.org In the body of the message write:
subscribe   No subject information is needed. Your address will be
determined from the message headers.

To unsubscribe from the DIGEST version of the list, send a message to:
hwg-techniques-digest-request(at)hwg.org In the body of the message, type:
unsubscribe  No subject information is needed. Your address will be
determined from the message headers.

If you have a subscription or administrative problem with the list, send
email to: owner-hwg-techniques(at)hwg.org.  or if that still causes you
problems, send mail to: lo-manager(at)hwg.org. If you have problems with
the mailing list that cannot be resolved by contacting one of the above
people, send email to: lg-manager(at)hwg.org. in order to resolve the
problem.

Sorry but the List Guides can't unsub anyone from the list or digest.

5.  How do I send a message to the list?

Please spend some time listening in ("lurking") before post in order to
get a feel for the way in which conversations take place.

As your List Guide, my priority is to assist you in any way I can,
so don't be shy. If I can be of service I can be contacted at

The List Guides are here first and foremost to help the members of the
Guild by answering questions, keeping the list on topic, and gathering
FAQ materials.

If you aren't sure whether this list is where you should send your post,
then please feel free to contact the List Guides prior to posting to
ensure that you are within the guidelines. We can direct you to the best
Guild list to post your question and may be able to answer your
questions as well. 

The Guides follow the Netiquette Guidelines as standard procedure in
reviewing posts to the lists, so before you submit your message be sure
you have reviewed the correct guidelines.  The newly revised Netiquette
Guidelines can be found at: /lists/netiquette.html

If you have a problem with what someone else has posted to the list,
then you may freely respond to them in *private* email or notify the
List Guides for the list.  Do NOT respond on the list!

If you have a problem with an action taken by a List Guide you may
address that with their manager(s) by sending mail to
lg-managers(at)hwg.org.

hwg-basics - This list is targeted towards those of you who are just getting
started
 	with HTML authoring. 
hwg-techiques- Its charter incorporates the issues of both "how to do it"
	and "why/when to do it" as they relate to website design and
	creation
hwg-business - Marketing, contracts, ethics, sales, etc. 
hwg-critique - Requests for reviews. 
hwg-graphics - Discuss the creation, and usage of graphics on the web.
hwg-languages - This list is intended for the discussion of Java, 
	Javascript, VBScript, PERL, ActiveX, and other web related programming
	and scripting languages and related issues. 
hwg-servers - Discussion of all aspects of web servers and CGI. 
hwg-software -(Was -webapps) Discussion of software applications used to
	support web site support and development. 
hwg-standards - This list is used by the HTML Writers Guild to discuss
	specific issues of the HTML and XML languages, current and evolving
                   standards. This includes HTML tags, validation, style
                   sheets and frames, as well as related standards including
	HTTP,  SGML, andURLs. Discussions of proper usage, robust coding
	practices, and what the standards mean (and don't mean) are all
	appropriate topics for this list. 
hwg-theory- For the discussion of the theories behind web development.
