If you want performance and robustness, go with LINUX. If you want the
optimal in media tools, you'll likely be best with a hot Mac.

Windows does things the Redmond Kids' way. Some knowledge is portable, much
is not.

The best LINUX distribution is of course the one that works for you. Red
Had is a good choice. I'd suggest the Pro edition with lots of
documentation, plus several O'Reilly books.
