Indeed.  And I'd like to relate a little something as well.  I come into 
contact with a great many computer users, mostly at work.  As 
has been said, most are not aware in the slightest that the display 
can be modified.  Just about everyone I've shown, though, has 
enthusiastically preferred a higher resolution, color depth, etc.  So 
the axe is partially true.  The people don't necessarily know how to 
change the display.  But I don't agree that it's true that people 
prefer the lower resolution display settings.  That doesn't agree with 
my experiences at all.
