Drop Down vs Pop Out/Down

Hello all:

Just wondering if anyone has opinions or has seen any kind of 
stats on user preference in navigation for drop downs vs pop outs.  
What I mean by this is, I have a page of links for navigation.  If you 
click on a link, a list of sub links drops down below it (using 
display: none and block).  I also have the same thing, where 
instead the sub links pop out to the side of the original link in a 
little box.  I'm just wondering if user preference-wise, if there is a 
preferred method.

Examples:  http://www.bastyr.edu (In IE you will see the drop 
down, in Netscape 4.x you will see the pop out.)

Any opinions appreciated.
