HOWTO Question: JavaScrip detection

Hello:

Browsing http://www.extreme-dm.com/tracking/ free tracking 
reports I've noted that into the Summary section there is a position 
named Javascript Enabled (sixth on the right) stating what percent 
of the visitors are with Javascript Enabled growers.

I'm curious how could be detected this on the server side?

I highly appreciate your comments and especially suggestions how 
could be done using a server side language (i.e. php or similar)
