Maybe on the Mac. I did a custom setup of Netscape 
on Windows, and it does *not* give you an option to 
install only the browser - AIM comes along with it.

Yes, a variety of browser is nice for testing, but I 
suspect there are more Mozilla users than there are 
NS6/7 users. ;-)

NS7 on the other Windows machine here interfered with 
other products, including standalone AIM, Trillian, and 
Mozilla. It almost made me think the installation 
process had been designed by people from the MS 
Internet Explorer project team! Despite my wishes, it 
also installed itself as the default application for 
opening HTML files, GIF files, and PNG files. I have 
other applications I use with those file types, such as 
Dreamweaver and image editing programs.
