They don't need to - just good spyware removal tools!

Also download and install Spybot Search and Destroy. 
It spots and removes spyware/adware that AdAware 
doesn't (and vice versa).

The root of the problem is using IE. IE has so many 
holes in it that websites can use to install software on 
visitor's computers that IMHO, IE should not be allowed 
to access the general Internet.
