I find a blank area to be quite useful.  I encountered it today when I 
was making a quick update to a page, which had an actual table on 
it (I'm trying to move away from doing layout by tables, but this is a 
legitimate table) and the actual data of the cell is blank, to indicate 
a vacant spot.

I've used <p></p> as a down and dirty way of having a row of blank 
on a page.  Off the top, I can't think of a way to have a row of blank 
without <p></p> even though I realize not all browsers would render 
that.

BTW, what does "nbsp" stand for?  ("&amp;" is obvious, but 
"&nbsp;" isn't.)
