It works, but it is a hack. At least I think its a hack. It doesn't feel
like the right thing to do with a pre. Although it might be.
Anyway, the `best' way to do this is with CSS, setting white-space: pre for
the element where you want white space preserved. Amazingly, this works in
NS4 as well as Mozilla and IE6.
