you can use javascript in the href parameter.

e.g.  <.a href="javascript:history.go(-1)">BACK<./a>

removing the need for the onclick and the return false. 

I also used another notation for the back command

That way the click event will stop being processed at that point.  It
reduces confusion. :-)
