Real software

For user-controlled slideshows (actually icture galleries) I've made my own
javascript that sends a number with the page request.  You need only two
pages: one for the thumbnails and one for the large pictures.  There's
previous/next/up buttons and it's very easy to make a new gallery even with
comments for the pics.

A client is keen to do a slide show on his site (he is a
PowerPoint freak) but the 80-90 slides he has makes the usual
Java slideshow applet impractical - all that I have seen force
all images to load before the transition to the 2nd slide can
begin.

My first thought was to do static HTML pages with a META refresh
tag, but probably there is a better approach.

Any ideas?  Thanks to anyone who can advise.
