Hello,
A windows program that works pretty well for this is Site/C from www.locutu=
scodeware.com. It's only $20, will monitor multiple sites and email/page =
when they're down or have changed. =20
Back when I was working more on linux, I also wrote a few perl scripts =
that used a combination of wget/diff and/or nmap to do checks on sites =
both to see if they were up and to check for page changes/corruption. =
These worked well, but were extra work to write.=20

But....the web sites that I want to monitor are behind my corporate
firewall, and not accessible from the "outside". Is there anything
good out there that I can run on a local server (either Windows or=20
UNIX)?
I have written my own monitoring software. I ping all machines, and=20
use telnet to retrive one specific page from the web servers. I would
like to see if there is anything better than my "homemade" system...
(without costing a lot of money.....)
I also have problems with sites that require a userid/password.
A co-worker provided me with a header file that I run through telnet
to get to one of these sites. The critical line started "Authorization:=20=
Basic". Unfortunately, the header file went to a specific dated page
that=20
has since disappeared. That particular co-worker has also moved to=20
another company in another state. I tried to just replace the "GET"
line,=20
but it gives me an error about Authorization.=20
I would really like some more information about this "Authorization:"
line.
Where did it come from, and how can I generate a new one?
