I had this problem with my free host (who i am very happy with and are
worth *more* than what i pay ;-)) -
they don;t add ads, but they do add one line of non-valid code at the bottom
of my pages.
To get validation, I do any of the following:

1/ validate using the file path, i.e. I validate the code before i upload

2/ Upload, then open the file on the server and edit it there - by
commenting out their code (deleting it makes it get put back)

3/ (what i have done and it works) - copied the host insertion code onto my
machine as it is after uploaded, so the code on my machine looks like the
stuff after upload - then comment the stuff out.
(If i delete their stuff, they put it back; but if i comment it out, then
they make no change to it, and i can get validation )

Obviously, each host is different, and this is just one line rather than
frame-ads (uggg - i'd change host myself, but that's cos i've got a good one
without ads - though it is part of my ISP deal, "Freeserve", so i guess it
does cost me) .

btw anyone -
the line of code inserted after the body is:

</body>
<!-- Required by Freeserve but invalid for W3C validation
<script language='javascript'>document.write('<img
src="http://sitebuilder.freeserve.com/servlets/istat?site=bbm&page=/HH/HHMai
n.htm&outil=ftpweb&n=' + Math.round(Math.random()*100000) + '" width=1
height=1>'); </script>
-->

Anyone know what it does?!
i wonder if i am losing stats for my page (whioch i can;t access anyway) ;
but there appears to be a random number generator in there -

h.
