FYI... Kodak brought out the DC265 which addressed that problem and a few
others, and considerably improved the camera. I bought the DC290 last year,
a later version yet of the same camera, and it does not eat batteries like
its predecessors did. I use it to take pics for my clients and have found
it does a very nice job--I can either take a TIF, which I use for
desktop/prepress purposes (but which also eats the camera disk storage
space incredibly) or a JPG, which gives me a great quality pic that I can
then edit for the web. They also gave the 290 the ability to be upgraded
with software as well as the ability to use additional camera lenses,
although I've not had as much luck with using the latter as I would like.
Then again, I'm not a pro photographer. :-)
I don't know what the going price is (probably *not* under $500), but you
might want to check for the best prices on either CNET (which used to be
Killerapp and worked great, but CNET bought them up and it's now tougher to
find the best prices)
or Pricewatch (http://www.pricewatch.com/ )--I usually find better pricing
through CNET. There are probably also other price search engines out there
as well.
