This is just my 2 cents on Intranets and Word (or even FrontPage), having
had to manage intranets at a few different companies in my day. 

You really have to weigh the benefit of going around and cleaning up Word/FP
generated "spaghetti code". Unless you're running a high-end intranet for a
very large company, it probably isn't worth your time to fix bad code, since
your content contributors are just going to use Word/FP again anyway and
destroy all your fixes.

Intranets are all about content, not style. You have a captive audience. And
while it is good to have nice-looking pages to entice your fellow employees
to use the Intranet, that can't take precedence over the ease of having
"novice" employees provide their own content where necessary.

What I've found is that an intranet "webmaster" can usually keep control
over the home page and the main departmental "entry" pages. It is also
easier to control content/style on corporate-level pages like those from the
Marketing department. Otherwise, bite your lip and let the Word/FP pages be.

Dreamweaver 3 has this facility, though I haven't used it myself. You could
alway download the 30 day trial and see if it works for you.
